Language Days were started by the United Nations to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity across the world. There are six language days which are English Language Day, Spanish Language Day, French Language Day, Chinese Language Day, Russian Language Day and Arabic Language Day.

Chinese Language Day is observed on 20th of April to pay a tribute to Cangjie who is a very important figure in ancient China. Chinese legends say that Cangjie had four eyes and he was also the one who invented Chinese characters. When he did that the deities and ghosts cried and the sky rained millets. From that day onwards the Chinese celebrate this day which is known as Guyu to pay an honour to Cangjie. According to the Georgian calendar this day is around April 20th.

Chinese language has existed for thousands of year and it is one of the most complex languages. Chinese belong to the Sino-Tibetan family of languages but due to its complexity it is hard to tell that when the language was separated from the family.
